Grant to Help with Highway 30 Improvements
The City of Rainier has received a Transportation Enhancement (TE) grant from the Federal Highway Administration, administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), to provide bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Highway 30 in the downtown business district.
Many sections of Highway 30 through Rainier’s downtown are currently missing, dilapidated and unsafe. The City received a TEP 21 grant to provide curb, gutter, sidewalk, landscaping and lighting improvements in the heart of downtown on Highway 30. Besides making needed bike/pedestrian safety improvements the project will continue the City’s efforts to revitalize the downtown business district. The City’s urban renewal agency REDCO is providing the local match ($84,625) for the project and total improvements will approximate $875,000.
One of the more difficult projects undertaken by the City, it will also provide great benefits to all Highway 30 system users including vehicle traffic, bicyclists and pedestrians. It will also provide a much needed streetscape improvement to downtown. W&H Engineering is the project engineer and has completed 95% of the final design.
This project has been delayed. The City hopes to have the project bid in mid to late 2008 with construction anticipated in early 2009.
