PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to provide rules of conduct to protect the rights and promote the safety of library patrons and staff while on Library premises; and to preserve and protect the Library’s materials, equipment and property.
DEFINITIONS:
- “Child” and “juvenile” is any human being under 10 years old.
- “Vulnerable adult” is any person over 18 years old who is experiencing temporary or permanent sensory, cognitive or physical defects that render them unable to function as would normally be expected of a responsible member of society.
- “Attended” means a parent, guardian or designated and responsible adult is, at all times while in the library, within 15 feet or in the direct line of sight of
- His or her child who is 5 years old or younger,
- A vulnerable adult who is in their care
- “Supervised” means a parent, guardian or designated and responsible adult is accompanying his or her child who is over 5 but fewer than 10 years old and is monitoring such child’s behavior but is not necessarily within 15 feet of the child.
Children and juveniles under 10 years old and vulnerable adults may not be unattended or unsupervised on library premises. The first offense will result in a one day suspension of library services. A second offense will result in a one week suspension and a third offense will result in a six-week suspension. ORS 163.545
