Council Votes to Appoint Interim Public Works Director

At its August 17 meeting, the Rainier City Council voted unanimously to approve an employment agreement with Pat McCoy to serve as the interim public works director.

McCoy has spent the last two and a half years serving as the city forester. He has a bachelor’s of science in Forest Engineering from Oregon State University, where he graduated cum laude. His prior experience includes 14 years as an operations manager with a forestry-based construction company, 19 years of experience managing employees and contractors and being the project manager for a larger union construction and excavation contractor.

Throughout the years, McCoy has also managed a $2 million road budget and aided in the preparation of easements and road use agreements.

“Pat’s impressive credentials and qualifications make him a great fit for the City’s public works department,” Mayor Jerry Cole said. “Council and staff feel that he will serve city residents well in this role.”

Rainier’s current public works director, Sue Lawrence, retired from her full-time position on August 1. She will continue contracting with the City as a consultant to help manage its wastewater and water plant operations.

McCoy, a Longview resident, is scheduled to start with the City September 1.
